Hartzell's Pharmacy was established in August 1968. Bob Hartzell purchased Sterner's Pharmacy at Front and Pine Street and changed the name to Hartzell's Pharmacy. The pharmacy had been operated by the Heckenberger family prior to this and its history dates back to 1874. Bob Hartzell operated the store at Front and Pine St. (in Catasauqua, PA) for 10 years when he moved the store to Second and Church St. The store was incorporated in 1990, in which Hartzell's Home Medical Equipment was established as a division of Hartzell's Pharmacy Inc. In March 2003, all operations were moved to a larger facility at 300 American Street.

Hartzell's Medical Equipment offers hospital beds, walkers, canes, ambulatory aids, and devices. Our staff is certified in orthopedic, stocking, and mastectomy fittings. We offer private fitting rooms and a mastectomy boutique. We are one of Jobst's top dealers in ready made and custom support stockings and have received the prestigious Conrad Jobst Award for Excellence in Fittings for the last 10 years.

Hartzell's also stocks the Ambulator Biomechanical footwear to ease discomfort so often found in diabetic patients and hard-to-fit shoe customers. Biomechanical footwear provides and equal distributions of pressure and superior comfort by delaying impact at heel strikes and dramatically reducing stress on the ball of the foot.
